Alleged CWG scandals and PM's silence

It is all over now. The stink of scandal is spreading all over Commonwealth financial deals and transactions. I need not go into the details of the row now as it is all over the various kinds of media. However, what is shocking is the silence of the bigwigs about this whole episode.

The most shocking silence is that of the prime minister. As usual practice (the Prime Minister remains silent whenever an important problem confronting the nation occurs), he remains silent about this scandal also. I wonder if it is the sign of his statesmanship or if he acting under pressure. But as the leader of the nation, it is one of his primary responsibility to talk to the people, at least in the parliament. More importantly, the fingers point toward one of his party mates, Suresh Kalmadi. So, the whole episode is embroiled in deep conspiracy.

Another person who should have answered a few unanswered questions is Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. One of her party leaders is allegedly involved in this scam, and the whole opposition is baying for his blood. But she too adopted a studied silence about the whole issue.

Another one is the person who is supposed to overtake the reins of the nation in the future. Alas! I wonder where our nation goes. He encourages the youth to enter politics and become champions of change. What change does he mean?

It is time the prime minister address the people and answer all the questions surrounding the alleged scam. Being a man of integrity, he should allay to suspicion in the minds of his people. I hope he will do that sooner than later.

We will not say we don't want anybody's votes: leaders. What does it mean?

If you are a person who closely watches and reads stories about political developments in Kerala, I am sure you may come across these statements by our great leaders quite often now. The reason is obvious. Elections to both the local bodies and Assembly are closing by. It is time they do all kinds of somersaulting verbally.

A few of the Congress leaders said they would accept the votes of Muralidharan and his supporters during the local elections. Then comes one of the finest acts of somersaulting from one of the most respected leaders the other day. He vehemently denies having said such statement. It was funny to watch TV clips showing both his statements simultaneously.

Then comes another leader from the central Kerala. He says his party and his coalition would seek anybody’s support and would never say that they wouldn’t seek their votes. This statement achieve significance in the light of the recent spurt in the terror activities in the state. My question is would they still accept the votes of those who publicly supports terror activities in the state. I wonder when our leaders would become statesmen. I am sure it will never happen because they are greedy of power and they would go to any extent to appease any one and any organization to get power in the capital.

There is another party. I am sorry I cannot reveal the names of those parties. But I am sure my people will understand them easily. Let us come back to this party which boasts of its secular credentials. In the last elections, they sought the help of a man who publicly supported hardline policies during his heydays. He was arrested and put behind bars for a few years. But when he came out of the jail, this so called secular party suddenly found him ‘secular’ and shared dias with him across the state. We are mindful of their intentions. It is what we call ‘appeasement’.

People of Kerala should show these parties that there is no place for them if they support those forces that are bent upon destroying and dividing our nation and people. Let us begin it from Kerala, or else there is no point in saying that we are one of the most politically conscious people in the state.

Terrorism in Kerala- Who is responsible?

It is shocking to learn that in a state which is proud of its educational and cultural supremacy, the seeds of terrorism have been sown very deeply. We cannot ascribe terrorism to any particular religion. However, we see that terrorism, by whatever way it is defined, is emanating from a particular community. I don't say the community as a whole is anyway responsible for the sudden rise of terror elements within its ranks, but the leaders of that community cannot simply wish away their responsibility.

As an Indian, proud of its cultural, religious and social heritage, I am saddened by this sudden rise of terror elements within my community and brethren. I, like any other Keralaite, despise this development in a peace-loving state like ours. If we analyse the recent terror activities in the state, it is obvious that this is doctored by a few hostile elements that want to divide our nation on the basis of religion by cultivating a sense disharmony among the people.

The recent attack on a college lecture reflects actions of the Taliban. I must say I personally don't support the error committed by that particular lecturer. However, this is not the way one should be punished. It is Talibanism.

For the growth of terrorism within the state, I will held all the major political parties accountable. They supported the growth of these terror outfits, covertly or overtly, to meet their political ends. Causing disharmony among different communities is one of the ways our political parties use to mobilise popular support to achieve their political ends in India. However, they forget to remember that this ultimately leads to divisions and disharmony among the people, and leads to the disintegration of our nation. At least now, the leaders must understand that it is time to put a full stop to such actions.

People of Kerala should see that they will not support a political party or any outfit that causes divisions within different communities in the name of religion or caste. It is dangerous. It is time, as Indians, we despise their actions and work and live for a united India.
