Mallus are known for work ethics, efficiency and pefection anywhere they go. Neverthless, the track record of their performance within Kerala is not quite encouraging. Mallus are known as the best workforce outside the state, but not within. Why does this happen?
If you study a Mallu who has come to his native place after two or more years of hardwork in the desert, you can understand why we are blamed lazy within our Mallu lokam. Imagine, one is a mason in Dubai, and now he is building a new home (dream of every Mallu to have his own home). He will use other masons to get the job done and he will never touch a brick during the construction. Here he wants to play the role of a master. When he comes from Gulf, he thinks he has earned enough, and he cultivates a kind of dragging psychological feeling that it is wrong on his part to do the same work at home.
The first priority of every Mallu is to get rid of this 'lazy-at-home tag'. Don't you think it is time we change this general perception about Malayalis? Yes, it is. The real issue is how.
The other day, I was talking to a friend in Chennai. He was wondering why strikes and shutdowns are regular phenomenon in our state. I was speechless. I tried to explain by showing our high 'so called political consciousness'. But he was not convinced.

We are setting a dangerous precedent, aren't we?
In Kerala, the politicians seem to be setting a dangerous precedent as far us our safety and security are concerned. They prepared to go to any length for the sake of few votes so that they can cling on to power.
Yes, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Irrespective of the differences in the colour of their party flags, political parties which are boasting of great ideologies, are running after people and organizations that are bend upon destroying the harmony and peace of our people.
Be it in the name of anything, there is no place for terrorist elements in our society.Whoever commits such crimes against humanity should be isolated and punished. However, our men in white dress and khadi lungis seem to be reaching out to people who spew venom in the name of religion and caste.
It is pity a party which boasts of its roots to greatest thinkers like Marx and Engels stoop to this level to please a community to garner votes and continue their misrule. On the other hand, we have a party in opposition without any kind of ideological back up other than sycophancy, competing with the ruling class for loaf of power in the state. These two major fronts in Kerala endanger the lives of all Mallus by patronising the elements which are created to sow the seeds of bitterness among various groups of Mallus.
It is time, every right thinking mallu sheds his political sleeve and come out openly in support our nation's security. It is the duty of every law-abiding Mallu.

Oh Mallu, what happened to you, man?
Kerala is becoming a society deeply divided on political and religious lines. ( I don't forget there are other differences) I choose these two because they are very obvious in a society, which is proud of its political consciousness.
Recently, there were reports that many Mallu lads (I am not bothered about their religious affiliations) were lured into terror activities. Alas! How could that happen to us? Who are responsible for this situation? Like in any other cases, or like any other Indian, I should point my fingers at the political class for our maladies. You see, the problem we face in our little society is very serious and deserves the attention Mallu, irrespective of the faith that we follow.
How could Mallu boys get lured into terrorism? A few of them were shot dead by our army in Kashmir. And our media is filled with new stories linking many to the terror activities carried out within and outside our state. The follow up stories are frightening. The men allegedly involved in these anti-national activities look very much like the people at home or in our neighbourhood. They are in no way different from the people in our main stream life!
Mallus in the state seem to be confused. A people known for their political consciousness and patriotism are deeply divided. Yes, they are divided on many lines, social, political, economical, educational. This is nothing new. However, the new confusion is on a different plane. Where are you? Are you on the side of those who support terror activities in the country? Or, are you emotionally and ideologically on the side of those who support such activities? I am deeply disturbed.
It is not merely Mallu confusion alone.

Mallus-Features of 14 mallu districts
Mallu Kerala consists of 14 districts. Let me put down a features of the mallu men of the fourteen districts of Kerala.
Kasargod: Northern most tip of Kerala. Got a part of it from Karnataka. Obviously, there is inter-mixture of culture and language. Known for Bakal Fort. Reports of sporadic violence from the district recently.
Kannur: This is the RED district of Mallu land. It is red in two ways.
Kannur is one of the districts of Mallu Land. The very name of Kannur send shudders through the spine of other Mallus in Kerala. Reason? It is very simple. People of Kannur are down to earth and simple? Joking? Yes, joking.
Kannur, a land named after the Hindu god, Krishna (Kannanooru or land of Kannan or Sri Krishna). However, this part of Mallu land is gaining popularity, not for its simplicity or beauty. This is the land of notorious political murders in Mallu land.
Kannur, traditionally known as a Red Fort. (Not because it is red in color or people are red.) It is just because people here make others red by bleeding them to death. This land is famous for its communist roots.
This Mallu land shot into fame after hundreds of political murders reported. I need not name the political parties involved. It is better said, “Don’t talk politics in Kannur”. The situation in this Mallu part is best said through this statement.
Before my marriage, my wife’s family resisted the alliance just because I was from Kannur. When I went beyond the borders of this Mallu land, I personally learned the greatness of my land. Whenever I uttered the name of my district, they, with terrified look on their face, asked me again, “Oh, you are from Kannur?” That was the respect Kannur inspired in the minds of others.
However, I feel that Kannur is one of the most peaceful place in Mallu land. Barring these violent events, everything is fine here. I can proudly say that you will find nowhere in Mallu land, a group of people as loving and caring as the Mallus of Kannur.

Mallu hero: Mallu Kumaran Sreesanth
You know who is Mallukumaran Sreesanth? He is the snaring hero of our national cricket team. He is known for his antics than for his ability to swing the ball. He is well-known for his on field and off-field antics. I don't like this guy who always snare at his fellow mates and the members in the opposition team. I, being a Mallu, am not at all proud of this seemingly spirited guy. His snaring while on the field reminds me of the kitten in my house. Whenever, we irritated it, it gets angry, and show an expression similar to that of Sreesanth. It is well-known that he got what he consider the best "Man of the match" award from Harbhajan Singh one day during IPL. He was happy with it for a few days. Then, I heard him creating problems in his bunglow in Bangalore. There the police gave him a strict warning like an umpire. They seem to have said he would be locked up if he continued to throw bouncers in the city any more. What a pity! However, now he is the hero of the second cricket test against Lanka. He made a come back. They say he was silent. Why? BCCI had given him a stern last warning. They had asked him to go and start fishing in Kochi if he created ruckus in the field like our politicians do in the parliament.
Mallu and Mullai (I mean the Mullaperiyar)
Mullaperiyar (Mullaiperiyar is the term our brothers on the other side use.) is the one of the buzz words in the Mallu world today. What is this Mullaperiyar? How ar Mallus and Mulla are associated. Let me briefly give an account. Mullaperiyar (Forgive me, my brothers on the other side of the border) It is a huge dam built across River Periyar in Idukki (A small district in the Mallu world). It is an century old building built during the days of vellakkaran (whitemen or we call them British). During the British days, Madras Presidency was ruled by white men and a piece of Mallu land (interestingly, there was no united Mallu land then) It was artificially metamorphosed into a single piece years later. The British signed an agreement with the Travancore King (Ruler of Mallus in the south) to build a dam, and as per the provisions, water from the Mullaperiyar dam should be shared between Madras and Mallu land. (You know, a part of the present day Mallu land was part of Madras land those days) I think that is the reason why Malabaris (Northern part of present Mallu land) show less interest in Mullai dam. The main purpose of British men was to serve their business interests. However, when the white men left, the left an array of problems behind them in our country. One of the problems was this Mallu dam.
Now, after a century plus years, Mallus have suddenly found the dam is not strong enough to hold water at the stipulated level. They have found many holes and cracks (technically, seepage) in and around the dam. And now Mallus think the dam is going to give in. If the dam bursts, Mallu world will be forced to redraw the map of this Mallu land. Why? It is sure at least four of the districts in the Mallu land will be wiped off. So, Mallus are scared. So, we decided to build a new dam to store water. However, that is not the end of the problem. You know we, in our country, prefer to fight with our brothers. It is like the story of Abel and Caine in the Bible. We don’t trust each other. We fight like two warring nations. We need to balance our findings. Our brothers on the other side of the border, called Tamils, will be without water in four of their states if the Mullaperiyar dam is destroyed. They are afraid the Mallus may not respect their rights, if a new dam is built. Their fear is reasonable. We never respect others rights. We don’t do that in our household in the mallu world. So, Tamils started protesting against Mallu’s move. I don’t know where this is going to end. Though I am a Mallu by birth, my loyalty is not with Mallus. I am an Indian first, not a Mallu. So, I am worried.

History of mallu world
This is the beginning of a glorious race in India. I should state the origin (old people say) and a brief history of mallu civilization. (I should do it fast, because people started saying the world is going to end by 21st December, 2012. (Hollywood movie effect). But my hidden agenda is to become a historian. Who knows what happens to this tiny peace of land, if the world crashes one day? The next creation of God (If at all He commits an error again) should know how their ancestors once lived. (This is my open agenda). You know this mallu land has another name. (For the sake of tourism development, we ourselves named our tiny piece of land). It is known as the “God’s own country”. If someone asks me to support my claim that it is a land of God, I should admit that I have no answer. After all, how does the land of God look like? God’s land is an imaginary world, or rather creation of our minds with all the virtues and no vices. I don’t think we can find toddy shops and brandy shops in every nook and corner of God’s land. I don’t think I can find politicians going for opponents throats for a piece of power in God’s land. I don’t think I can see hartals and bandhs in God’s land. So, our claim that it is God’s land is without any substance. I have put down only three examples. However, my aim is not to tarnish the name of my state. It is better than many other states in our great country in many aspects. So, we say it is God’s own land.
What is the history of mallu world? They say, a sage named Parasuraman, once threw his holy axe into the sea, and the sea backed off till the point where the axe landed, and this landmass was created. Of course, Parasuraman was not simply a muni (sage), he must have possessed enormous physical strength to throw the axe to such a distance. Who bothers? Anyhow, the land is created. Mind you, there is no place for logical thoughts in mallu world. Others say, we are a race with lots of political consciousness. I beg to differ. If bandhs and hartals for even simple reasons is the criteria for measuring one’s political consciousness, yes we are, but I don’t that is the parameter for being politically conscious citizens. And this land was created. Then what happened. Nothing! Literally nothing.

Mallu Lokam
This is a small lokam of Mallus (That is how Keralaites are lovingly called by their countrymen, especially those who are in the north) I am sure it not a indecent term. In fact, it cannot be. This blog might include anything that has an impact on our mallu life. (You know, a mallu is different from his other countrymen in many respects.) Some may be good or many be bad, but you have to stand them, for we are mallus. What a lovely name! Isn't it? I dont want to begin today. Now, it is rahu kaalam. When I write something about a race that claims to be the descendants of Agasthya Muni, I should follow the astrologically fixed timings. I am lazy, yes like any mallu. He is lazy only at home or in his state. Outside, he is considered one of the best workforces in the world.
I welcome you to this tiny world of mallus.
I welcome you to this tiny world of mallus.

Welcome to the world of Mallus ( Mallu Lokathilekku Swagatham)
This is a blog about Mallus (Let me use the proper adjective "Mallus" here to denote a race in India who are really proud of their Mallu identity within Indian nationhood.) Mallus are people who belong to a tiny but politically, socially and culturally (economically, I should say I am not sure) a strong state, Kerala (Original name of Mallu land).
I dedicate this blog to all the Mallus, within and outside the country. I promise to put down everything, yes, everything about this race ( I am also one among the 3 crore plus crowd of this state).
This blog will cover everything: political, social, cultural, economical side of every Malayali. (Mallus are also known as Malayalis)
Let us go ahead.
Lovingly,
A Mallu
