Mallus are known for work ethics, efficiency and pefection anywhere they go. Neverthless, the track record of their performance within Kerala is not quite encouraging. Mallus are known as the best workforce outside the state, but not within. Why does this happen?
If you study a Mallu who has come to his native place after two or more years of hardwork in the desert, you can understand why we are blamed lazy within our Mallu lokam. Imagine, one is a mason in Dubai, and now he is building a new home (dream of every Mallu to have his own home). He will use other masons to get the job done and he will never touch a brick during the construction. Here he wants to play the role of a master. When he comes from Gulf, he thinks he has earned enough, and he cultivates a kind of dragging psychological feeling that it is wrong on his part to do the same work at home.
The first priority of every Mallu is to get rid of this 'lazy-at-home tag'. Don't you think it is time we change this general perception about Malayalis? Yes, it is. The real issue is how.
The other day, I was talking to a friend in Chennai. He was wondering why strikes and shutdowns are regular phenomenon in our state. I was speechless. I tried to explain by showing our high 'so called political consciousness'. But he was not convinced.
