Achuthanandan should quit before it is too late

Achuthanandan, as chief minister of Kerala, has failed before his people once again. I wonder what is happening to his reputation as a great communist when his authority as the chief minister is questioned time and again. Ever since his becoming the chief minister of Kerala, he was rated as an under-performer just because he could not do anything (let us forget what he preached when he was the leader of the party)for the state.

The recent transfer of Transport Commissioner Premshankar was another blow to the authority of Achuthanandan. He has lost the confidence of his colleagues and that of the people who brought him to the power despite stiff opposition to his candidacy from his own party. The chief minister has publicly voiced his displeasure to the idea or demand of his cabinet colleague, the transport minister Jose Thettayil's demand for the transfer of the commissioner. He stood by the honest officer initially, but had to give up obviously under pressure from his party.

So, who is ruling Kerala? What is the authority of the chief minister? Doesn't the CM has power to defend even an honest officer? Yes, being a strict party man, he might have succumbed to the demand of his party, but he lost his face in that attempt.

So, I feel it is high time Achuthanandan quit his post as CM before the people of Kerala do it themselves after the elections.
